RCB – Always and Forever

A season which didn’t go the way many fans thought it would, but we’ve got few positive things and moments to look after.

The way RCB bounced back after 6 defeats in a row

The dynamic duo of Virat and De Villiers made sure that Bangalore tasted their first win of the season.

AB de Villiers played a terrific knock in the game ensured that his team got through. Virat Kohli also played a valuable knock in the game and registered a fifty. The RCB bowlers brought out their best performance of the tournament in this game. Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 99 in this game went in vain as the RCB comfortably registered an 8th wicket win over KXIP.

Parthiv Patel’s consistency throughout the tournament

The way Parthiv Patel gave his 100% to his team amidst turmoil in personal life. The impressive feature about his batting this season – apart from the quick starts – has been his runs in tough conditions.

The 29 on a sluggish Chepauk track where the team managed only 70 was the only double-digit score that innings. He then scored 67 on another turner in Jaipur, when his teammates were bamboozled by Shreyas Gopal. His 53 in the last match against CSK was a crucial knock too, given Kohli and AB de Villiers fell early. Parthiv played the Power Play enforcer role against Punjab too, making use of the pace on the ball.

All these knocks have been very vital for RCB on many such instances and Parthiv Patel never failed to impress all the RCB fans.

ABD-Moeen heroics at the Wankhede

ABD’s love for the Wankhede Stadium continued as he smashed a 51 ball 75 when his team needed him the most. Later, Moeen Ali joined the party by smashing a real quick 32 ball 50. They both managed to add 95 runs. The partnership between these two was very very crucial as RCB had lost 2 important wickets in the first 7 overs. PS : Moeen Ali has fared well with the ball in almost all the matches he played.

Virat Kohli’s 5th IPL TON

A possessed man, gaze fixed, his brain processing things faster than you can is at one end. He can out-think you. He makes you wonder if you’re in the right profession. And there you are at the other end, 22 yards away. You have your weapon, weighing 5.75 ounces. You are assessing ways to beat him. But he is a few steps ahead of you. As the bowler, the world feels sorry for you.

Virat Kohli’s superhuman effort helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to register a win against Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata. The star Indian batsman played a majestic knock of 100 off just 58 balls.

Moeen Ali 27 ball 66 runs crucial knock

A knock which can be described as ‘Carnage from Moeen Ali and Masterclass from Virat Kohli’.

Moeen Ali was promoted up the order in the absence of Ab De Villiers. Virat Kohli and Moeen Ali – both managed to add 90 runs for the 3rd wicket. Moeen’s blistering 27-ball 66 set base for what turned out to be a stunning assault. While RCB were struggling at 70/2 after 10 overs, Kohli and Moeen’s counter attacking stand of 90 runs paved way for RCB crossing the 200 mark, scoring 143 runs in the last ten overs of the innings.

Dale Steyn wrecks havoc with back to back wickets against CSK

Steyn’s return had an immediate impact as the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dale Steyn, turned back the clock when he got rid of Chennai Super Kings opener Shane Watson and No. 3 Suresh Raina off consecutive deliveries in the first over of the visiting side’s run chase. That delivery to Suresh Raina will be remembered for a long long time. Dale Steyn managed to gun down Suresh Raina. That was two in two for the main man. Inch-Perfect-Yorker with the new nut.

Virat Kohli – Dale Steyn 10 year challenge

Dale Steyn seemingly had brought new life into the RCB team. He had last played for RCB in the year 2009 and then in 2019 he replaced Nathan Coulter Nile. Virat Kohli was elated as Dale Steyn rolled back the years and managed to remove Shane Watson for 5 runs and then demolished the stumps of Suresh Raina the next ball. They both celebrated the win with an amazing throwback picture with a beautiful captain and Virat Kohli reckoned it as “my most favourite #10YearChallenge ever”.

ABD’s one hand six masterclass and the crucial partnership between himself and Stoinis

AB de Villiers the man who is known to do the impossible managed to pull off a freakish one handed six – a shot which can make your jaw drop. He took one hand off the bat and turned his head at the moment of impact, the ball flew over backward square leg and landed on the roof of the stadium. ABD and Stoinis then combined forces up punish the KXIP bowlers. Stoinis later joined the party and scored a vital 34 ball 46 and then they both fired RCB to an imposing total of 202/4.

Navdeep Saini’s rise as a bowler

The rapid rise of the uncapped pacer is now a man who is known for cranking up raw pace. He was the man who managed to stand out even when others failed. Navdeep Saini is one of the brightest fast bowling prospects in RCB at the moment. He can quite comfortably clock in access of 140 knob on the speed gun. Although he went wicketless in many matches, but his tight bowling helped RCB throughout.

His bowling in the death overs kept Royal Challengers afloat many a times. He has proved his worth this IPL playing for RCB and is bowling well on a batting paradise at the Chinnaswamy. Known to breach the 150kmph regularly, Navdeep is also getting the ball to move around in his opening spells at a rapid pace. The young pacer is now an asset to Team RCB.

Umesh Yadav’s last ball come back and Parthiv Patel’s last ball run out

The best match of the season. Certainly the most exciting last over thriller of IPL ever. The game went deep and 26 runs were needed of the last over and Dhoni was the only recognised batsman in the middle.

He started the over with a four and followed it up with two sixes off the bowling of Umesh Yadav. Two runs came off the fourth ball over the over. This brought the equation down to 8 from the last two balls. MS Dhoni hit a six off the second last ball but couldn’t hit the last ball as Umesh made a come back by bowling a slower ball. Shardul Thakur tried to sneak a bye but was run out by Parthiv Patel as RCB won the match by 1 run.

Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh Mann play a blinder in order to end the season on a high

Chasing the target, RCB got off to a terrible stand, losing their top three batsmen for just 20 runs inside 3 overs. Almost extreme pressure, the pair Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh Mann took the matter into their hands. They stranded cautiously before taking the SHR bowling attack to the cleaners.

Hetmyer, who was making a comeback in the RCB Playing XI, notches up his maiden IPL fifty off 32 balls while Gurkeerat completed his half-century in 39 balls. After recording their respective fifties, the duo went bonkers and hit boundaries at will. They shared a match defining partnership of 144 runs off 88 deliveries put RCB on the brink of victory.

The biggest and the most positive takeaway from this season has to be that Parthiv Patel, Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal have been constant contributors apart from the usual faces of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. It’s good to see the franchise playing freely without burdening themselves.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore team managed to end this season on a high by winning their final match of the season. And winding up their IPL 2019 campaign in front of their ardent and loyal fans who have stood by them regardless of the result.

We can surely be proud of the effort our boys managed to put in the final few matches. And since Virat Kohli our skipper has promised us that the team will come out even more stronger the next year, we can’t really wait for the next season to begin. Anyway, until next time RCB.
